What difference has the funding made?

Developing staff expertise

The largest proportion of our investment was in professional development for staff.

This has enabled staff to develop their knowledge, confidence and skills in delivering high-quality PE and physical activity.   We have used a range of coaches to support a variety of areas, working alongside the teachers to develop their confident in areas such as dance, rugby and tennis.  Developing staff expertise is an important part of ensuring that improvements to PE provision are sustainable and continue to benefit children in future years.

Increasing opportunities for children

We invested in additional opportunities for children to participate in sport and physical activity both within and beyond the school curriculum.

  • Additional extra-curricular sporting opportunities, including golf, netball and croquet.
  • External sporting competitions – football, swimming gala, netball, cross-country
  • Specialist external coaching in dance and badminton.  This prepared a group of children to perform in a local dance festival and gave the children a chance to participate in a new sport.
  • Additional swimming and aquatic opportunities – participation in the local swimming gala
  • Access to appropriate equipment and resources.

These opportunities have enabled children to experience a wider range of activities, develop their skills and confidence, and represent the school in competitive sport.

Competitive sport

The funding enabled children to take part in external competitions and sporting events, providing opportunities to develop teamwork, resilience and determination.  We were successful in the local cross-country festival where we were the Under 11 and Under 9 Team winners.  We also finished 5th in the local swimming which is an improvement on last year.  The girls football team won all the matches they played and the boys football team came second in the local tournament against 12 teams.

Our priorities for 2026–2027

We will use our evaluation of this year's provision to identify priorities for the next academic year. These will include continuing to develop staff expertise, increasing participation in physical activity and competitive sport, and ensuring that all children have opportunities to develop their physical skills and confidence.  We would like to broaden the range of sports that the children experience and work harder to encourage a more diverse group to children to participate in sports.

Our continued aim is to ensure that all children at The Lanes have the opportunity to be active, develop their skills, experience success and enjoy being physically active.
